Description
The sky rips open above Wyrdheim, hurling a stranger into Silfra’s arms. Marked with strange tekknik and hunted by the ruthless Fifth Order Gothi, Hamari’s arrival sparks a flight across fractured lands.
With her exiled mentor Elthar at her side, Silfra is pulled into buried histories that could unmake reality itself. As Aeldstorms tear at the world and gods take sides, survival is no longer enough. She must claim the power she was never meant to wield and the self the world refused to see.
Fractured Rune is a queer fantasy of magic, resistance, and the dangerous power of finally being seen.

A first class fantasy novel set in a world unlike any mankind ever lived in. Yet it’s human inhabitants may be descendants of old earth, caught up in the existence of thing that never could be there. Not to mention the complex politics of the many countries our heros are forced to traverse.
I’ve been blessed to do beta reading for Daniela. I’ve read through Book 2 and I’m looking forward to Book 3.

The long as short of my review: Five Stars. This book is fantastic, the story is great and I highly recommend it.
Normally fantasy novels aren’t my thing, but I do read them from time to time. Here, I quickly found myself curious about the world and characters, the mysteries and world building is done richly and drew me in. The passages always felt richly alive yet deeply intimate with the characters. The action is well paced and written and there is a weight to every character’s choices. Each of the characters change over the course of this and the journey Silfra & Hamari take with Elthar is incredibly well woven together. Not to mention every time The Bograz turns up it’s a delight. When I reached the end, I found myself wanting more, to turn another page and find out what happens next. So much so I found myself checking the author’s website & social media trying to divine a hint to the next release.
While I was reading, I was also struggling with a recent encounter on the road that reopened old trauma & severe panic attacks and diving into this book helped me immense calm and recenter myself. And in many ways, thinking back to my own youth, if this story was there when I was a kid, this would’ve helped me find my way much sooner.
I look forward to the next installment.

I enjoyed Fractured Rune so much. The aesthetic vibes are my jam (Viking-ish but with more modern, steampunk-like tech and beyond) and the story is a fun, meaningful ride. One of the most rewarding aspects of the book is the deep, rich folklore that the story unfolds within. This is Book One, and I find myself enthusiastically waiting to see and learn more.
The cast of characters is quite lovable and I cheered for the protagonist along her journey. The queer rep is excellent and the action superb. There’s even a witty animal(?) companion. The book hit my nostalgia buttons for fantasy worlds I want to crawl inside of. And I do, I want to crawl inside this unusual world and experience the different forms of magic.
The pacing of the book reminds me of the first season of a TV series and that worked well. It’s one cohesive story, but there is an episodic quality that breaks up the action into arcs.
With themes of transformation and identity, I believe this book will resonate with a wide breadth of readers, whether they are queer or not. A little Hero’s Journey, a little Heroine’s Journey, Fractured Rune is a fun, adventurous read with entertaining banter and a lot of heart.
